German phone box in the United Kingdom

Just spotted this on my travels around Stratford upon Avon. You can see that the payphone was removed from the box. But very interesting that the phone box enclosure is of a type that I've seen mainly in main land Europe only. If you got more info, please feel free to reply to this post.

  1. It was installed by Mercury now trading as Cable and Wireless. This type of kiosk made by Machin was installed in 1994, IPM took over Mercury payphones and scrapped the actual kiosks and telephones with the exception of these German style ones and used there own corporate design 'Interphone' in 1995. As of now the kiosk is derelict but someone has been reclaiming these sites

  2. These particular kiosks were common in Manchester and Birmingham and a few other places and were replaced with advertised focused payphone kiosks which are more commercially viable. The phone was removed and maybe in a kiosk in London now.

  3. Thanks for the info. Very interesting.

Do you have any further info on this post? Have you called the payphone? If so, what conversations with people have you had as a result? Please feel free to give any feedback here.
